Rent a boat in Friesland? Fancy a day on the water in a sloop in Friesland? It's great fun to get out on the water together and enjoy beautiful Friesland. But how do you find all those beautiful towns and villages on the water?
From the water, the surroundings look quite different and the ANWB signposts are missing. So how do you get to Hielke and Sietse Klinkhamer's Chameleon village or that cosy island you saw in the photos? And what is a nice route to sail there?
The most frequently asked question when we leave the harbour is: Do you know any nice routes along beautiful places? We have posted several sloop routes on our site that you can easily open in Google Maps. Handy for en route.
A fun new route around Sneek is the route across the Sneekermeer lake. Not through the city of Sneek, but across the beautiful Sneekermeer and the Poelen.
After leaving Heeg, you sail through Hegemer Far to the Wide Wimerts. The Wide Wimerts is part of the Frisian Elfstedentocht. Halfway up the Wide Wimerts you turn right onto the Weineslet (towards harbour IJlst) IJlst is a beautiful Eleven Cities town. A small town with a long canal lined with beautiful buildings with the most beautiful gables. Did you know that several scenes from the Chameleon films were shot here? moor your boat, stroll along the canal and soak up the atmosphere of IJlst.
You leave IJlst again via the Riper Feart. The Riper Feart meanders towards Jutryp and via the Soalsleat you reach the Swarte Brekken and Witte Brekken. The Brekken have lovely anchorages for a swim in good weather.
Via Aldhof, you come to the Princess Margriet Canal. This is a busy canal with the requisite large cargo ships. Keep a good starboard leeward here and pay attention!
And then, of course, the Sneekermeer lake awaits. Via the Prinses Margrietkanaal, you arrive at the Starteiland. The place from where the many sailing boats start during the famous Sneekweek.
The Sneekermeer lake is teeming with sails on a beautiful day. You can take the best photos of blue skies and white sails here!
Across the Sneekermeer, there are several options for sailing towards the chameleon village of Terherne. This route goes via the Sneekermeer towards the chameleon village of Terherne, (with possibly a drink at the pavilion from the famous books).
On the way back, you can sail via the Goingarijpsterpoelen behind, with many nice anchorages to take a dip in good weather.
Leaving the Sneekermeer and the Poelen behind, you sail via the Noarder Aldewi to the Langwarder Wielen. Here you can visit the water sports village of Langweer.
Langweer is a real sailors' village and you immediately taste that atmosphere when you walk along the quay to the cosy terraces in the village.
pack or visit one of the many quaint shops.
The last part of the route goes via the Janesloot and the Koevordermeer to Woudsend. Woudsend's charm lies in its alleyways with beautiful vistas and its 2 beautiful windmills. Yet another spot well worth mooring.
Via the Nauwe Wijmerts or Rakken, you sail back to the harbour in Heeg. On the Heegermeer, you can moor on the island to enjoy the beautiful wide views over the Heegermeer and the Fluessen.
Or grab a quick terrace (you put your sloop on the terrace) in the village of Heeg.
