Friesland has many beautiful sailing areas, too many to discover in one day. That is why we see that our guests often rent a boat for a few days or a week. Rent to discover Friesland. 

Now you can find an accommodation somewhere and sail a different route from there every day. From a holiday park in Heeg, Woudsend, Balk, Koudum, Langweer or Sneek you can sail many beautiful sloop routes through Friesland.

But it can also be done differently! We notice that more and more guests sail a route of several days and stay overnight at various locations along the way. A great way to discover Friesland.

Example of a multi-day sloop route

But what is a good multi-day route? That depends, of course, on your own wishes and ideas. Do you like nature? Or do you prefer the city? Do you like sitting on a terrace or would you rather picnic on an island along the way? Friesland has many possibilities.

To give you an idea of these possibilities, we have put together a sample route for you. This is a good mix of what Friesland has to offer.

Day 1 sloop sailing in Friesland


You can make your reservations from 9 a.m. onwards. sloop Pick it up at our place in Heeg. The first day you sail the route through The nature of Gaasterland. On the way, you will pass through nice villages like Heeg, Woudsend and Balk with cosy terraces to drink coffee with a Frisian delicacy, to have lunch or a drink.

When the weather is nice, you can moor somewhere in nature and, if you dare, take a swim in natural water.

You can spend the night in Woudsend at Hotel Restaurant Omke Jan or in Heeg at The Water Sports or StayOkay. At all three addresses, you can usually moor in front of the door.

Day 2

This day you will sail via IJlst, Sneek, the Sneekermeer and Akkrum via the Zijlroede to Grou. A beautiful trip through picturesque IJlst, after which you will sail on to the cosy centre of Sneek. If you want to do some shopping or just go into town, you can moor your boat at the famous Waterpoort.

You continue your tour through Sneek and sail via the Houkesloot to the Sneekermeer. A nice stop is the starting island, the centre of water sports during the Sneekweek.

Then you sail towards Akkrum via a number of beautiful pools. Once there, you sail through the village via the Zijlroede to the Wijde Ee and via the Pikmeer to cosy Grou.

You can spend the night at various places. A good suggestion is hotel Oostergoo with its own moorings.

Day 3

Day 3 is a day for true nature lovers. You sail via the Pikmeer and the Wijde Ee through the Kromme Ee and the Veenhoop to the beautiful nature reserve The Alde Feanen National Park

Here you can choose your own route through the various ditches and canals and across the small lakes and ponds. 

Your final destination for the day is Earnewald. You can spend the night at Hotel Princenhof, where your sloop can moor at the terrace. A nice ending to a day of sloop cruising in Friesland.



Day 4



This day you sail on the Prinsesmargrietkanaal via Terherne to Langweer. 

In Terherne you will find the Chameleon Village. Via the Sneekermeer you sail to Langweer. 

If you want to spend the night in the centre of Langweer, then The Warehouse an atmospheric accommodation. You will then moor your sloop in the harbour of Langweer.

Day 5 Sloop sailing in Friesland

On the last day, you sail via the Grote Brekken to the atmospheric town of Lemmer and then via the Langesloot to the authentic village of Sloten. This village is definitely worth a stop. Via the Slotermeer and Woudsend you sail back to Heeg. If you still have not had enough of Friesland, you can of course book a weekend or a (mid)week in one of our unique Tiny Houseboats.


Extend or shorten your route through Friesland?

If you have less time, you can sail back to Heeg on day 4. If you have more time, you can sail from Grou to Leeuwarden and moor in the Prinsentuin, spend a day in Alde Feanen National Park or discover the Tjeukemeer and Delfstrahuizen.

In short: there are plenty of opportunities for 3 days to a week through the beautiful Friesland to sail with a sloop. This route is also excellent with a sailboat to sail. You can enjoy sailing on the spacious lakes, but also many canals and ditches are easy to sail.
