From the water, the scenery does look quite different and the ANWB's signposts are missing. So how do you get to the Waterpoort in Sneek or that cosy island you saw in the photos? And what is a nice route to sail there?
So the most frequently asked question when we leave the port is : Do you know any nice routes along beautiful places? On our site we have several sloop routes placed that you can easily access in Google Maps. Handy on the go.
One of the routes is the IJlst- Sneek -Langweer-Woudsend round trip. This route is often sailed by our guests and they always come back enthusiastic!
After leaving Heeg, you sail through Hegemer Far to the Wide Wimerts. The Wide Wimerts is part of the Frisian Eleven Cities Tour and via Osingahuizen you will arrive in the 1 of the Frisian Eleven Cities, IJlst. IJlst is a beautiful eleven-city town. A small town with a long canal lined with beautiful buildings with the most beautiful gables. Did you know that several scenes from the Chameleon films were shot here? Moor your boat, stroll along the canal and soak up the atmosphere of IJlst.
Cruising on after IJlst, you soon enter the larger town of Sneek with its famous Waterpoort. Great to see the Waterpoort from the water for once. The route goes right through the town, under several bridges. The busy city traffic is stopped for you, the bridge opens, a salute to the bridge keeper and on you go. An extraordinary experience!
Sneek is of course also ideal for mooring and grabbing a terrace or visiting one of its many quaint shops.
After the centre of Sneek, the Sneekermeer naturally awaits. Via the Houkesloot, you arrive at the Starteiland. The place from where many sailing boats start during the famous Sneekweek. On a beautiful day, the Sneekermeer is teeming with sails. The most beautiful photos of blue skies and white sailing make you here!
From the Sneekermeer, there are several possibilities to sail back to Heeg. This route goes via the Sneekermeer to the Goingarijpsterpoelen behind it, with many beautiful anchorages for taking a dip in good weather. Via the Noarder Aldewi you reach the Langwarder Wielen and you can visit the water sports village of Langweer.
Langweer is a real sailors' village and you immediately taste that atmosphere when you walk along the quay to the cosy terraces in the village.
The last part of the route goes via the Janesloot and the Koevordermeer to Woudsend. The charm of Woudsend lies in its alleys with lovely vistas and its 2 beautiful windmills. Yet another spot well worth mooring.
Via the Nauwe Wijmerts or Rakken, you sail back to the harbour in Heeg. On the Heegermeer, you can moor on the island to enjoy the beautiful wide views over the Heegermeer and the Fluessen.
Or you might quickly grab another terrace (you put your sloop to the terrace) in the village Heeg....
